Functional Rhinoplasty (Rhinitis)
Breathe and look better in one surgery — rhinitis and septal correction combined with aesthetic rhinoplasty

Overview
Many patients considering rhinoplasty also live with chronic congestion — a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates, or rhinitis. Functional Rhinoplasty corrects the inside and outside of the nose in a single operation: the septum is straightened, turbinates reduced, and the external shape refined at the same time.
One anesthesia, one recovery, two problems solved. Because DU's 3D CT already maps the internal structures for aesthetic planning, functional issues are identified and addressed in the same surgical plan rather than referred out.
Why Functional Rhinoplasty (Rhinitis) at DU
- Breathing and appearance corrected in a single operation and recovery
- 3D CT reveals septal deviation and turbinate hypertrophy precisely
- Straightening the septum often improves external deviation too
- One-hour-class surgery with a single follow-up visit
Recommended for
- Chronic nasal congestion, mouth breathing or snoring
- Deviated septum with or without visible external deviation
- Rhinitis sufferers planning aesthetic rhinoplasty anyway
- Patients wanting to avoid two separate surgeries and recoveries

Functional Rhinoplasty (Rhinitis) — FAQ
Can breathing surgery and cosmetic surgery really be combined?
Yes — they share the same surgical field. Correcting the septum first often provides cartilage for the aesthetic work, making the combination efficient and structurally sound.
Will my congestion definitely improve?
Structural causes (deviation, turbinate hypertrophy) respond well; allergic rhinitis symptoms are reduced but may still need ongoing medical management.
Is recovery harder than cosmetic-only rhinoplasty?
Similar — about 7 days with stitches out on day 7. Internal splints, if used, are removed at the follow-up visit.
Is this covered by insurance?
Functional components may qualify differently from cosmetic ones for Korean insurance; international patients receive a clear combined quote at consultation.
