Overview
When a nose needs significant structure — a very low bridge, a badly shortened or contracted nose, or a frame damaged by previous surgery — rib cartilage provides what silicone and ear cartilage cannot: abundant, strong, fully biocompatible material from your own body.
DU performs autologous rib harvest through a small hidden incision (about 1 hour added to the surgery) or uses processed donor rib when harvest is not desired. Dr. Oh carves the cartilage to build the septal extension and tip framework, producing results that are stable for life with no implant-related risks.

Does rib harvest leave a scar?
A small incision of a few centimeters is placed along the chest crease where it fades and hides well; harvest adds about an hour to surgery.
Autologous vs donor rib?
Your own rib has the best integration; donor (irradiated homologous) rib avoids the harvest step with a modest trade-off in long-term absorption rates. Both are discussed at consultation.
Will the cartilage warp?
Warping is controlled through DU's carving technique — balanced cross-section cutting and reinforced fixation — a known focus of Dr. Oh's framework design.
Is recovery longer than normal rhinoplasty?
Nose recovery is the same (about 7 days); the harvest site is mildly sore for around a week and does not restrict daily activities.
